Lower House denounces continued Israeli aggression on Palestinians
AMMAN (JT) — The Lower House on Thursday denounced continued Israeli aggression on the Palestinians and called on the world community to work for an end “to this hideous military offensive on the unarmed Palestinian people under occupation.”In a statement, the House urged “advocates of freedom, democracy and human rights to work against the inhuman and colossal injustice committed against the brotherly Palestinian people.”
By Thursday afternoon, the Palestinian death toll in the 40-month-old Intifada against 37 years of Israeli occupation reached 2,768, according to Agence France- Presse.
The MPs also expressed their deep shock at what they called “disregard on the part of the world community and failure of international bodies to fulfill their responsibilities” towards the Palestinian people.
The Lower House statement commended Jordan's efforts to support the Palestinians and pledged every possible assistance to the Palestinian Legislative Council.
In a related development, the Jordan Press Association (JPA) condemned in a statement Israel's arrest of Deeb Hourani, correspondent of the Lebanese Manar satellite channel, in the West Bank town of Jenin.
The JPA said the reporter's arrest is part of ongoing “Israeli crimes in the occupied lands.”
The association expressed solidarity with their Palestinian colleagues and called on world countries to ensure the safety of journalists covering the conflict.
