King says ensuring efficiency in emergencies must
AMMAN (Petra) — King Abdullah on Monday ordered
the “immediate” allocation of funds to provide northern, central and southern
governorates with necessary equipment to tackle emergencies.
Visiting the Civil Defence Department (CDD) to examine “circumstances”, under
which several citizens in the south were trapped in snow last week, the King
also ordered the acceleration of setting up a rescue and support department in
southern areas.
The Monarch said the project should be put out to tender by the end of this
month to guarantee speedy implementation.
The plan was scheduled to be completed in five years. He stressed at a meeting
with CDD Director Major General Awwad Masaeed the importance of ensuring the
efficiency of government bodies that deal with emergencies, particularly weather
conditions.
Underlining efforts by the department, King Abdullah called for activating CDD
committees in the governorates to tackle emergencies.
