Mount Nebo receives increased number of tourists
MADABA (Petra) — Around 193,000 tourists visited Mount Nebo last year,
according to Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities statistics. The number
is a significant increase on the 55,000 tourists who visited the location
during 2003. The ministry said around 92,000 tourists visited the Orthodox
Church in Madaba (housing the mosaic map) in 2004. The map, which depicts
the locations of Jerusalem, Jericho and the Dead Sea, among other places,
was discovered in 1884. The church was rebuilt in 1896.
