Foreign minister reiterates call for an end to violence in Palestinian lands
AMMAN (JT) — Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher on Thursday reiterated Jordan's call for an end to violence in the Palestinian lands, and “all acts that would hamper efforts to relaunch peace talks between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.”The minister's remarks were made at a meeting with a delegation of senior US Senate staffers currently on a mission to Jordan.
He renewed warnings against Israel's continued construction of a separation barrier in the West Bank, stressing that it poses a threat to Jordan's national security.
Muasher also emphasised Jordan's stand in support of Iraq's territorial integrity, pinpointing a programme the Kingdom has launched to train thousands of Iraqi policemen, army personnel and diplomats as part of Jordan's efforts to rebuild the war-hit country.
The future Iraqi government should be representative of all the components of the Iraqi population, Muasher told the US delegates, who were also acquainted with the ongoing political development process in Jordan.
The visiting delegation comprises assistants to US senators, who are mostly concerned with issues relating to legislation, human rights, civil society and foreign affairs.
On Wednesday, the staffers, who met with His Majesty King Abdullah a day earlier, visited Dar Al Aman, the child safety centre affiliated with the Jordan River Foundation (JRF).
Officials at the organisation presented them with a general idea about its mission initiatives in creating and supporting sustainable social, economic and cultural programmes, empowering communities and individuals based on their needs and priorities, according to a JRF statement.
During their visit, the US Senate staffers also visited Al Hassan Industrial Estate near Ramtha where they were briefed on products manufactured there for export to the US markets under the US-Jordanian Free Trade Agreement.
