Christian religious
leaders visit Kingdom
AMMAN (JT) — A delegation representing Christian religious leaders from Europe
and the US is expected in Amman today, arriving from Palestine. Over 50 Catholic
bishops and other church leaders from North America and Europe are in the area
on a solidarity mission with Christians in the Holy Land. Today, they are
scheduled to meet with local officials, including former deputy prime minister
Marwan Muasher. The visiting delegation will be briefed on Christians'
contribution to the political, cultural and economic life in Jordan. The bishops
will also visit Christian holy sites in the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency,
Petra, reported. According to Palestinian web sources, the delegates include
Archbishop Patrick Kelly of Liverpool, Archbishop Brendan O'Brien of St. Johns
in Canada and Bishop William Skylstad, president of the US Conference of
Catholic Bishops, among other senior clergymen.
