Bakhit Receives Lebanese Prime Minister
Amman, Jan. 18 (Petra)—Prime Minister Marouf
Bakhit received Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, who is currently on a
visit to the Kingdom to rally support for the “Paris 3 conference”, scheduled to
be held soon to discuss means of providing political and economic support
Lebanon.
Bakhit reiterated Jordan’s supportive position towards Lebanon, adding dialogue
among all segments of the Lebanese people was the only way to solve disputes.
He told reporters that Jordan’s stance on Lebanon was clear for all, noting His
Majesty King Abdullah II expressed his full support to Lebanon.
The Prime Minister said his meeting with Siniora was friendly, adding that the
Lebanese premier briefed him on the outcome of his Arab tour to rally support
for the Paris 3 Conference, as well as the latest developments in Lebanon.
His Majesty, Bakhit said, made contacts with Arab leaders to come up with a
unified stance on Lebanon. “The region’s crises, including events in Lebanon and
Iraq resulted from the absence of justice in Palestine and the failure to arrive
at a just, comprehensive and everlasting peace for the Palestinian issues that
leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” he said.
Bakhit urged the Palestinians to adopt a unified stance on the resumption of the
peace process with the Israelis.
Siniora for his part described his talks with Bakhit as positive, adding that
talks covered issues of concern to the Arab nation.
The Lebanese prime minister expressed thanks and appreciation for Jordan’s
support to Lebanon, particularly during the Israeli aggression on Lebanon last
summer.
He said the crisis in Lebanon cannot be solved by violence or demonstrations but
through dialogue.
