King meets Abizaid
His Majesty King Abdullah held talks Sunday with the chief of the US Central Command, General John Abizaid, on the future of Iraq. The Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported that King Abdullah and Abizaid "examined the latest developments in the region, especially the future of Iraq." The two sides also discussed military cooperation between Amman, a reliable US ally in the tense Middle East, and Washington at the talks which were also attended by King's Adviser on Security Issues, Director of the General Intelligence Department and President of the National Security Council General Saad Kheir. Abizaid, whose family is Lebanese, is a specialist in Arab affairs. He has responsibility for 250,000 US soldiers deployed in 25 countries from the Horn of Africa to Pakistan, including the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan — AFP
