Jordan signs development
agreement with World Bank
AMMAN (JT) — Jordan and the World Bank signed the Regional and Local Development
Project agreement at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC on Thursday.
The agreement is an important development in the pursuit of strengthening the
capacity of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in order to regulate the
development of local and regional interests more effectively, according to a
statement released by the Jordanian embassy in Washington, DC. The agreement
goes further in establishing a municipal sector database and restructuring the
Cities and Villages Development Bank. This move also seeks to strengthen and
further develop analytical tools, documentation systems, procedures, and credit
analysis in the area of regional and local development, the statement said. The
government regards this agreement as integral to its development goals and
proactive reform efforts and sees it as testimony to the strong ties Jordan
enjoys with the World Bank, the statement added.
