Mulki to meet Shalom in Davos
AMMAN (JT) — Foreign Minister Hani Mulki is expected to meet his Israeli
counterpart Silvan Shalom at the World Economic Forum in Davos next Wednesday to
discuss the peace process, an official confirmed Sunday.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rajab Sukayri told The Jordan Times that Mulki
will join world political and business leaders in Davos to tackle major issues,
including the fight against poverty and climate change.
Sukayri, a former ambassador, said Mulki is to hold talks with Shalom there, but
gave no further details.
In statements published yesterday by a local daily, Mulki said his talks with
Shalom would cover Israel's position on the peace process and the almost defunct
roadmap to the Middle East peace process.
The newspaper quoted Mulki as saying that he would discuss with Shalom Israel's
unilateral withdrawal plan from Gaza and if such a move would act as a prelude
to a comprehensive evacuation of Palestinian territories in line with the
roadmap.
The minister said the results of the meeting will determine Shalom's visit to
Jordan.
The postponed visit was expected to take place after the January 9th Palestinian
presidential election. Talks were to include the issue of around 25 Jordanian
prisoners in Israel.
