Lubna Mahadeen
appointed member of Seattle Human Rights Commission
AMMAN (JT) — The City of Seattle Council has unanimously approved the
appointment of Lubna Mahadeen as a member of the city’s Human Rights Commission.
During the televised confirmation hearing, Mahadeen presented her vision of her
role as a citizen of Seattle/ Washington, shedding light of the recent gaps
developing between the Arabs and some US citizens. In her speech, she said these
gaps can be narrowed through open dialogue. Mahadeen, who is the first Arab
woman to assume such a post, has a bachelors degree in business administration
from the University of Jordan, and a masters degree in public relations from the
Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington. In addition to
her new post, Mahadeen is the programme coordinator for the Seattle Centre
Community College and an active certified mediator, mediating for King County in
Seattle Washington.
