QIZ exports to US climb 54% to $587m

AMMAN (Petra) — Exports from the Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZs) to the US rose by 54 per cent to $587 million in 2003 compared to $381 million in 2002, according to latest figures released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Garments accounted for the largest portion of the exports. Sales from Al Hassan Industrial Estate in Irbid rose to $187 million from $125 million whereas those from Al Karak Industrial Estate reached $100 million compared to $75 million. Exports from the Dhulail Industrial Estate also rose to $85 million compared to $61 million while those from the Qastal Industrial Estate doubled to $4 million. Exports from the Ruseifa Industrial Estate dropped to $6 million compared to $9 million, the figures indicated. Exports from Jordan Cyber City QIZ which is located inside the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) rose to $52 million from $30 million while those of Al Tajamouat Industrial Estate in Sahab rose by around 100 per cent, reaching $151 million compared to $78 million.
