'Youth integration in political life' debated
AMMAN (JT) — Democracy must be nurtured from within a country, not be imposed from abroad, said John Holmes, Canadian ambassador to Jordan Wednesday at the opening of a workshop entitled "Youth Integration in Political Life." The two-day event is designed to acquaint young adults with their duties and rights, in order to take an effective role in the political life of the country, said Abdullah Abu Al Atta, coordinator of the programme. "It is important to invest in youth and provide them with opportunities to develop as responsible and effective citizens," Holmes added. The workshop's programme includes a brief presentation on democracy in Jordan, the Constitution, the art of communication, and how youth can participate in political life. The activity is organised by the Arab Consultant Team, a nonprofit organisation for research development working to enhance the capabilities of national and regional organisations involved in development. It is sponsored by the Canada Fund.
