Premier meets with US
official
Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit on Sunday said finding a solution to the
Palestinian question would defuse current regional tensions. During a meeting
with Francis Townsend, advisor to the US president on homeland security and
counterterrorism, Bakhit briefed her on the country’s stance regarding regional
issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. Townsend commended Jordan’s
comprehensive and mediatory initiatives in various regional and international
matters. Also on Sunday, the premier expressed the government’s support for Save
the Children and its efforts to effect positive changes in the lives of
families. During a meeting with Dennis Walto, the field office director for
Jordan and Lebanon, the premier was briefed on programmes initiated by Save the
Children, which has been operating in the country since 1985.
