MICT to sign technical support agreement with Singapore soon

AMMAN (Petra) –– A technical support agreement involving a number of projects in the IT field will soon be signed with Singapore, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MICT) on Thursday.

The statement said that a delegation from Singapore visited the Kingdom last month and discussed with MICT Minister Fawwaz Zu'bi and other ministry officials the steps required to carry out the agreement.

The two sides defined the Jordanian projects to benefit from Singapore's technical assistance, including schemes to develop the communications and information technology sector and the e-government plan.

Mahmoud Khasawneh, head of the information unit and director of the e-government department at the ministry, said: “The agreement covers two essential areas the first of which concerns the transfer of the Singaporean know-how, expertise and the necessary consultative services to help support Jordan's efforts to upgrade the performance of government agencies.

The second area, the official added, “outlines ways to improve the initiatives and strategies related to communications and information technology and to upgrade the performance of personnel working in the ICT field.”

During the visit, the Singaporean delegation was acquainted with the main projects executed by the ministry and the work at the Income Tax Department as well as other departments.
