Three States Buy Half of Kingdom's Exports
AMMAN (Petra) — Half of the country's exports last year went to three countries out of 135 states that import Jordanian products, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade figures. During the first eleven months of 2003, Jordan's exports to the US accounted for 28.9 per cent of the overall exports volume. The sales to the US represented a 57.6 per cent rise over the same period of last year. The country's exports to Iraq ranked second at 12.6 per cent while those to India ranked third at 8.6 per cent. Most of the exports to the US, valued at JD373.8 million, originated from the Qualified Industrial Zones. Although exports to Iraq dropped by 35 per cent, reaching JD184.4 million compared to JD284 million, Iraq remained the country's second major economic partner. Exports to India also dropped by 12.2 per cent, reaching JD126 million compared to JD143.5 million.
