King condemns Israeli actions against the Islamic holy shrines in Jerusalem

Amman, Feb. 6 (Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II expressed deep concern over the Israeli excavations against the Islamic holy shrines in Jerusalem which have been accelerated during the last few hours after the Israeli authorities announced the start of earthworks operations which threaten the foundations of Al Aqsa Mosque.

His Majesty told Jordan News Agency that he strongly condemned these actions, and that Jordan, based on its keenness to save the Islamic holy places in Jerusalem and in accordance with the signed peace treaty with Israel, will do its utmost with all Arab and International bodies to take the necessary steps to save the Islamic holy places in Jerusalem.

His Majesty said that what Israel is doing against Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem, especially the Al-Aqsa holy Mosque is a flagrant violation which is unacceptable under any pretexts.

King Abdullah stressed that such actions would lead to the creation of atmospheres that do not help restore the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The King directed the government to intensify contacts with different Arab and international bodies, including urgent contacts with the Israeli authorities to stop procedures, due to their negative consequences against Al Aqsa Mosque.

His Majesty had recently expressed his condemnation of the attempts that aimed at changing the nature of the holy sites in Jerusalem, in particular the attempts to demolition the road of Al Magharbeh Gate that is adjacent to the wall west of Al Aqsa Mosque as the road is an integral part of holy mosque.
