Arab summit should enhance joint action — King
DEAD SEA (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on
Sunday hoped that Algeria's upcoming Arab summit would come up with resolutions
to enhance the joint Arab action and meet peoples' expectations in the region.
King Abdullah made the remarks at a meeting with Algerian Justice Minister Tayeb
Belaiz on the sidelines of the “Good Governance for Development in the Arab
Countries” conference here. Belaiz formally invited the King to attend the
summit, which will be held in March.
At a separate meeting with Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa, King Abdullah
urged more cooperation and coordination between Arab countries to make the
summit a success, particularly at such a critical stage.
He underlined the important role the Arab League plays in defending Arab causes.
Praising Jordan's endeavours to achieve peace in the region, Musa said the
Kingdom's reform plans form a model in the region.
Meanwhile, the Monarch told Yemeni Prime Minister Abdul Qader Bajammal that
Tuesday's Sharm El Sheikh summit is “an important and serious step to push the
peace process forward.”
Also on Sunday, the King held talks with Mauritanian Prime Minister Ould Mbarek,
Canadian Foreign Minister Pierre Pettigrew, British Minister of State for the
Middle East Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean and Japanese Parliamentary Secretary
for Foreign Affairs Keishiro Fukushima.
