Vatican's office in Amman to coordinate assistance to Iraq
AMMAN (Petra) — The Amman-based Pontifical Mission's regional office has been tasked with coordinating US and European donations for the rehabilitation of Iraqi hospitals as well as mother and child primary care and social centres damaged during the US-led war on the Arab country, according to the mission's director Raed Bahou. In a statement after returning from the Vatican where he attended a meeting by delegates from more than 50 nations, Bahou said the delegates approved an integrated plan for the aid to the Iraqi people focusing on humanitarian, health and educational services. Established in 1949, the Pontifical Mission was dedicated to provide assistance to the victims of political disturbances and conflicts without any racial or religious discrimination.
