Jerusalem committee
urges Israel to immediately halt offensive actions
Secretary General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan,
on Wednesday said Israel’s excavation work near the entrance of the Aqsa Mosque
compound is considered a conspicuous violation and an open challenge to
international resolutions which prohibit Israel from carrying out any actions
that would change the Old City’s religious, archaeological and demographical
characteristics. Kanaan urged Israel on behalf of the committee to immediately
halt the offensive actions to avoid the consequences. The committee also called
on King Mohamed VI of Morocco, chairman of the Jerusalem Committee, the
Organisation of the Islamic Conference, the Arab League and the UN to halt the
Israeli practices and oblige it to abide by international resolutions in order
to achieve peace and stability. The committee underlined that coexistence
between the Arabs and Israelis is possible if Israel abides by international
resolutions.
