Foreign minister to visit Syria today
AMMAN (Petra) — Foreign Minister Hani Mulki will head to Syria today for talks with Syrian officials on developments in the region following the Sharm El Sheikh summit.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Rajab Suqeiri said
the one-day visit to Syria is part of consultations between the two brotherly
countries, particularly because Jordan considers the rapprochement witnessed in
the region, as an opportunity to revive the peace process to arrive at security
and stability in the region.
Suqeiri added that Mulki would discuss with his Syrian counterpart Farouq Shara
measures to activate the Arab peace initiative.
They will also discuss holding a five-party meeting comprising Jordan, Syria,
Egypt, Lebanon and Palestine to prepare the Middle East peace file which will be
presented in the upcoming Arab summit in Algeria.
Meanwhile, Mulki will pay a two-day visit to Oman on Saturday to discuss
regional developments and bilateral relations at the political and economic
level and ways to enhance them.
