Committee members vow to implement 10-year strategy
AMMAN (Petra) — Members of the newly established
Steering Committee for the National Agenda have vowed to exert all possible
efforts to translate His Majesty King Abdullah's vision for the future of Jordan
into reality.
A Royal Decree issued on Wednesday tasked a 26-member team, consisting of former
ministers, politicians, academics and businesspeople with setting the guidelines
for the development process during the coming decade.
In a letter to Prime Minister Faisal Fayez, the King stressed that the national
agenda entails objectives that embody the overall national vision and sets
programmes, strategies and policies, to which successive governments will be
committed.
Minister of Education Khalid Touqan told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the
committee will work out a comprehensive strategy on ways to upgrade human
resources management.
The minister, whose role in the panel is to supervise human development, said
the envisioned strategy is designed to produce well-qualified Jordanians whose
professional level meets the highest standards in the international labour
market.
He noted that scientific research would receive due attention in order to
develop the Kingdom's human resources.
Committee member Abdul Latif Arabiyat said the new strategy would build on
previous successes achieved by the country in various sectors.
Meanwhile, committee member Musfata Hamarneh said leading members “from the
public and private sectors” have a crucial role to play in enabling the country
to face future challenges.
Nawal Faouri, an Islamist and women activist, stressed the need for dialogue
among the civil society institutions “to realise the national strategy and
implement the King's vision.”
The Steering Committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State
for Prime Ministry Affairs and Government Performance Marwan Muasher.
