Muasher leaves for Kuwait

BONN (Petra) — Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher left Germany for Kuwait on Saturday to take part in a meeting of officials from neighbouring countries.

Muasher concluded a visit to Germany during which he held talks on regional issues with the country's officials.

Meeting with his German counterpart, Joschka Fischer, Muasher reiterated Jordan's stand on the separation barrier Israel is building in the West Bank, describing the structure as obstructing efforts to put the Middle East peace process back on track.

He added that the wall will have a negative impact on Jordan's national interests.

Muasher said the Israelis and the Palestinians should take essential steps to stop the deteriorating situation between the two sides.

The foreign minister reemphasised the need to fully implement the internationally- supported roadmap to Mideast peace.

For his part, Fischer commended the efforts His Majesty King Abdullah is exerting at the international and regional levels to end the tensions in the region and resume the peace process. He stressed his government's commitment to peace efforts aimed at persuading the parties to the Middle East conflict to return to the negotiating table and work out a political solution to the conflict.

Muasher also clarified Jordan's position on the Israeli-built separation wall and other regional issues to members of the committee on foreign affairs at the German parliament.
