Moratinos to discuss Sharm El
Sheikh summit in Amman
AMMAN (JT) — Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos is expected to
arrive here today on a two-day visit for talks on Mideast issues and bilateral
ties.
An embassy statement on Monday said Moratinos' trip “aims at getting a firsthand
analysis of the recent regional developments, especially the Sharm El Sheikh
summit, as well as discussing bilateral relations.”
It added that Jordan and Spain “share the same perspectives on a series of
issues,” including the Middle East peace process and the situation in Iraq.
Spain grants Jordan around 1.5 million euros annually to fund agricultural,
health and other projects, according to the statement.
Moratinos, on a regional tour of the Kingdom, Syria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia,
seeks Jordan's support for Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero's
“Alliance of Civilisations” proposal to help resolve cultural and religious
differences between the West and Muslim world, the statement said.
