Cabinet accepts
nomination of new Iraqi ambassador
The Cabinet on Saturday accepted the Iraqi government's nomination of Saad Jasim
Hayani as its ambassador in Amman. Jordan has named an ambassador to Iraq, but
Ahmad Lawzi has not yet taken up his post in Baghdad where Charge d'Affaires
Suleiman Arabiyat is currently running the embassy. The Council of Ministers
decided to appoint Alia Hattough-Bouran as Jordan's ambassador in London. The
Cabinet also decided to reconstruct the internal auditing units of ministries
and departments, and to allocate 162 dunums of land in Maan, Aqaba and Mafraq to
construct housing units for underprivileged families. The Council of Ministers
agreed to exempt from income tax, the income earned by Arab Bank from selling
shares of investments and development projects allocated to Jordan Armed Forces
and security personnel. Also on Saturday, a Foreign Ministry source said that
Qatari Foreign Minster Hamad Ben Jabr Al Thani would visit the Kingdom on
Tuesday, and meet His Majesty King Abdullah to discuss bilateral relations and
means to boost mutual cooperation. The source added that Foreign Minister Abdul
Ilah Khatib will leave today (Sunday) for Algeria to participate in the second
meeting of the Algeria-based Arab summit follow-up committee. The committee is
scheduled to submit its report on the recommendations issued by last year's
summit in Algeria.
