Muslims in West play
important role — King
Monarch meets with Qatari FM
AMMAN (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah on
Tuesday called for cooperation between the Muslim world and the international
community to promote the true image of Islam as a religion that rejects
extremism and terrorism.
At a meeting here with British Home Secretary Charles Clarke, King Abdullah
highlighted the role of Muslim communities in the West.
King Abdullah reviewed the Amman Message, which was launched in November 2004 to
promote Islam's tolerance and moderation.
Clarke, who commended the King's efforts to help achieve peace and stability in
the region, agreed on the need to promote Islamic values in Western societies.
The King and Clarke also discussed issues of common concern.
Clarke met separately with Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Fattah
Salah, who talked about plans to send Muslim clerics to Britain to spread the
Amman Message.
Also on Tuesday, King Abdullah received Qatari First Deputy Prime Minister and
Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Ben Jassem Al Thani.
The King discussed with Sheikh Hamad bilateral ties and ways to bolster them in
a way that reflects positively on the two peoples.
Sheikh Hamad, who was on a brief visit to the Kingdom, said his country was
ready to offer qualified Jordanians all facilities to work in Qatar and help
boost its economy.
Talks also covered political developments in the Palestinian territories and
Iraq, as well as means to enhance joint Arab action.
