Youth Parliament programme goes on air

AMMAN (JT) — Jordan Television (JTV) on Monday started broadcasting the Youth Parliament programme — part of an overall strategy to promote the younger generation's role in public life.

The sessions will be moderated by members of the Youth Parliament that comprises a president, deputies and other student members. Each session will end with realistic recommendations as well as voting for or a specific issue.

The programme aims to ensure the full participation of young people in all daily political, economic and social aspects.

It also intends to establish democratic rules and traditions for the youth, as well as teaching them how to discuss issues and respect others' opinions.

The programme producer, Issam Zawawi, said a Dome similar to the real Parliament was built at the JTV studios to make it more realistic.

The programme targets students aged between 18-24 years, families and society in general.

In December 2003, the Aqaba Governorate was chosen for the pilot project of an ambitious plan to form youth parliaments in each of the Kingdom's 12 administrative districts, and another on the national level.
