Majali holds talks with Syrian president on Kingdom's parliamentary experience
DAMASCUS (Agencies) — Syrian President Bashar Assad on Monday received Lower House Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali, who is heading the Kingdom's delegation to the 45th session of Arab Parliamentary Union Council and the 11th conference of the union.According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Majali presented Assad with Jordan's parliamentary position on an initiative to establish a unified Arab parliament. Talks also covered Jordan's parliamentary experience, which the president commended.
In his speech at the conference, Majali also reviewed Jordan's efforts to make its democratic life a model for the region.
He also went over developments in the Arab world and the challenges they pose in the region, reiterating Jordan's support for a unified Arab stand on Palestine and Iraq.
On Sunday, the delegates discussed the separation barrier Israel is building in the West Bank and bilateral ties, with their Arab peers on the sidelines of the event.
The Jordanian delegation called for an effective Arab parliamentary stand concerning the wall.
Agence France-Presse reported that the Arab lawmakers meeting discussed the situation in Iraq and the Palestinian territories, as well as the creation of a unified Arab parliament.
All the Arab countries, except Iraq and Libya, were represented at the two-day meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Union in the Syrian capital, organisers were quoted as saying.
