Women to run country's media institutions today
AMMAN (JT) In observance of International Women's Day, official media institutions have appointed female co-workers to run the organisation for one day.Reem Rawashdeh was appointed chief editor of Al Rai, for the day to mark the occasion, while Bayan Tal, assistant director general for follow-up and development at Jordan Radio and Television Corporation will act as director general of the corporation for today.
Programme Director Samar Kheir was named acting director of Jordan Television, and Nahid Khammash, head of the Family Programme Department at Radio Jordan, as acting director.
Meanwhile, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, appointed Amineh Tayeh as acting director general at the agency for the day.
Minister of State and Government Spokesperson Asma Khader approved the appointments.
To mark International Women's Day and give prominence to the high professionalism of women journalists, UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura called on the media worldwide to hand over editorial responsibility to women for a day, according to the agency's website.
Through this initiative, UNESCO said it seeks to give more visibility to women journalists, to their editorial work, as well as to women as voices in the media, according the website.
