Shurdum discusses security coordination with Iraqi official

AMMAN (JT) — Director of the Public Security Department General Tahseen Shurdum on Thursday conferred with the visiting under-secretary of the Iraqi ministry of interior, Hassan Ali, and his accompanying delegation.

They reviewed coordination between the Iraqi and Jordanian security services in police training, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The meeting followed the graduation of 500 Iraqi police lieutenants on Wednesday, after the completion of their training programmes in the Kingdom. Jordan last year agreed to train 32,000 Iraqi police over the next two years to help rebuild the country's infrastructure services.

The eight-week training programme — which was executed at the Police Training Centre in Muwaqqar — included classes in international law, human rights, English language and riot control.

Besides Jordan, Iraq and the US, instructors and staff come from several countries including Canada, Britain, Austria, Finland and Sweden.

Also on Thursday, Shurdum met with police chiefs in the country's various governorates, urging them to safeguard and protect human rights and deal with security-related cases on the basis of equality and justice.
