UN Human Rights Council session
Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Ilah Khatib left for Geneva on Sunday to
participate in the fourth session of the UN Human Rights Council, which opens today.
During the session, Khatib will brief the participants on progress in human rights in
the country, including those pertaining to legislation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra,
reported. Khatib and other representatives of the council’s member states will participate
in an interactive dialogue with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour on her
annual report. Reports presented during the session will also address minority issues, effects
of economic reform policies, foreign debt, racism and racial discrimination, freedom of religion
or belief, and other human rights-related issues.
