Fayez, Qureia discuss 'disengagement' plan
AMMAN (Petra) — Prime Minister Faisal Fayez and his Palestinian counterpart Ahmed Qureia on Sunday discussed Israel's “disengagement” plan and reiterated rejection of the separation barrier. At a Prime Ministry meeting, Fayez and Qureia said the controversial barrier threatens the Palestinians and harms Jordanian interests.
The two premiers stressed that finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause is a must in order to go ahead with possible Mideast reforms.
Qureia, who briefed Fayez on his recent European tour, said Israel must withdraw from Palestinian territories and release Palestinian detainees.
He later told the press that Palestinians were still committed to the roadmap to peace plan, which aims to end conflict with Israel and establish an independent Palestinian state by 2005.
Asked about a French initiative to deploy forces in occupied territories, Qureia said the plan was a “fair attempt” by the international community to help end the conflict.
