Education Ministry
strategy finalised
AMMAN (Petra) — Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and
Scientific Research Khalid Touqan on Saturday said the ministry has recently
finalised its education strategy, which outlines the goals, orientations and
performance indicators for the process. At a press conference, the minister said
several initiatives seeking to enhance decentralisation, including the
delegation of more powers to school principals, were tested and will now be
officially adopted under the new strategy. The new plans, he added, also include
curricula development, the construction of more school buildings and
computerising school subjects under the Jordan Education Initiative. He noted
that public schools have so far been supplied with 85,000 computers, while 2,300
schools, out of a total of 3,100 functioning under the ministry, have been
linked to the Internet. Also on Saturday, in his capacity as head of the Royal
Committee of the country's Knowledge Stations, Touqan signed an agreement with
the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, under which these IT
education centres will serve as gates for e-government portals. The 100
Knowledge Stations all around the Kingdom will educate local communities on how
to access to government e-services available on e-government sites.
