Municipal elections to
be held in July
Municipal elections will be held in July, Minister of Municipal Affairs Nader
Thuheirat said on Tuesday, following the Senate’s endorsement of the amended
Municipal Law. The municipal elections will be transparent and electoral
procedures will commence after a Royal Decree is issued and the law is published
in the Official Gazette, the minister said. Elections procedures, such as
registration of candidates and members of the electorate, will require 95 days,
Thuheirat said. Under the law, municipal councils will be dissolved in the next
few days and temporary committees will be formed to run municipal affairs, the
minister added.
