US Grants $138.5m In Economic Assistance to Jordan
Amman, March 23(Petra)-- The Jordanian and the US governments signed a grant agreement totalling $138.5m in US economic assistance to Jordan.
The agreement was signed by US Ambassador Edward Gnehm and minister of planning Bassem Awadallah.
Minister of planning said that $88m of the grant will be used to support Jordan's Social and Economic
Transformation Plan. Specific initiatives to be financed include, among others: training of unemployed
Jordanians under the Ministry of Labor's National Training Project, renovating public
schools and introducing information technology into their classrooms under the Education Reform for Knowledge
Economy Program, and addressing Jordan's potable water shortage through construction of the Abu
Zaighan Salt Water Treatment Project.
