King Affirms Keenness to Preserving Press and Media Freedoms

Amman, March 28 (Petra)—His Majesty King Abdullah II affirmed keenness to preserve press and media freedoms and raise their ceiling, for they are the eyes of Jordanians that focus on the truth, and a forum for dialogue and discussion.

“The kind of media we need is a national, free and responsible one that is only censored by ethics of the profession” the King said in a letter to Dustour daily on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

This media, he said, should focus on achieving interests of Jordan and Jordanians through revealing the truth.

He said it was important for our media institutions to continue and preserve their national approach, while taking into consideration principles of profession and its ethics.

In his letter, His Majesty also called for attaching special attention to the Jordanian youth sector and address problems facing it with a view to having a new youth culture that embraces the best Jordanian values.

The King expressed confidence in Ad-dustour’s ability to take care for the Jordanian youth and focus on their concerns and issues.
