e-school project
launched
AMMAN (Petra) — The e-schools project, part of the plan to develop the education
sector, was launched on Tuesday.
The project is part of the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and
the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, which is equipping 16 schools in the Kingdom
with computers and providing the necessary training to English and maths
teachers.
The company has opened four training centres in the country for this purpose.
The development in ICT and research studies has proved the effectiveness of
e-learning, Minster of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Research
Khalid Touqan said at the launch, which will require a change in educational
programmes in order to keep up with international technological advancements.
Jordan, a centre for ICT in the region, can provide different opportunities for
those who master fields such as IT, management and data entry and analysis, in
addition to its increased role regionally and internationally in knowledge
economy, the minister added.
The minister noted that cooperation between the public and private sectors has
added to the development of education by introducing computers in maths,
science, Arabic and English classes, adding that 33 blind teachers had also
received training.
The ministry is working on obtaining the International Computer Driving Licence
(ICDL) for visually impaired students and teachers to enable them to use the
curriculum.
It is also monitoring the use of computers in schools in order to improve their
effectiveness in the classroom.
Muhannad Turk, director general of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, said the
JD300,000 project is part of the firm’s efforts to serve the community and
enhance education in the country.
