By Reem Halasa
AMMAN — The 24th Arab Children's Congress,
organised by the Noor Al Hussein Foundation's Performing Arts Centre (PAC),
anticipates participation from neighbouring European countries this year, it was
announced at the preparatory meeting on Sunday.
This year's congress, to be held between July 19-25, will host Jordanian folk
singer Omar Abdullat, and UN Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie, as guests of
honour, PAC Director Lina Tal said.
The event will bring together children from various Arab countries to
participate in diverse activities including workshops in drama, dance, painting
and crafts.
The Ministry of Education will select the local participants, representing the
Kingdom's governerates, explained Tal.
The preparatory committee of the congress comprises representatives of several
ministries, governmental organisations, NGOs and international organisations.
The annual Arab Children's Congress was formed following the 1980 Arab summit
held in Amman, in response to Her Majesty Queen Noor's call to support children
and protect their rights based on the 1959 UN International Declaration of
Children's Rights.
The opening ceremony is slated for July 20 at the Roman Amphitheatre.
Participating delegations and guests of honour will attend the opening.
