Third phase of women's empowerment project begins this year

An agreement for “Integrating Health and Empowerment of Women Project in the Southern region” was signed at the Higher Population Council (HPC) on Wednesday. The project — a result of the current cooperation between the Kingdom and the Japanese government — will receive financial and technical assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), while the implementation will be supervised by the HPC general secretariat in cooperation with Ministry of Health. The first two phases of the project were implemented in Karak Governorate between 1997-2003, while the third phase, which covers the entire southern region, will be implemented over the next five years. HPC Secretary General Zuhair Kayed said the project seeks to improve women's reproductive health. He added that the project would be implemented at the local communities
