Agreement signed to operate mobile library

AMMAN (Petra) — The Haya Arts Centre and Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation signed an agreement Sunday to jointly operate a mobile library for the benefit of children in the remote regions of the country.
Under the agreement, signed by Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation Director General Ibrahim Izzeddin and Haya Arts Centre Board Chairman Taher Masri, the foundation will provide JD2,000 to purchase furniture and other equipment needed for the mobile library, plus JD3,000 worth of books, publications and other materials suitable for children at different age levels.
The foundation will also supply the mobile library with new books, provide a classification system and follow up on the library’s improvements.
For its part, the Haya Arts Centre will provide the vehicle housing the mobile library, undertake the vehicle’s maintenance and arrange the library’s visits in conjunction with the concerned authorities.
The mobile library service, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, is designed primarily to serve the children living in remote rural and badia regions, where schools generally lack libraries of any kind.
After the signing ceremony, Messrs. Izzeddin and Masri toured the Haya Arts Centre and inspected the services offered to children. The centre comprises a library, a theatre, a science museum and laboratories.
