Polly Vacher to visit Jordan
AMMAN (JT) — Polly Vacher, a pilot from the UK
attempting to break a world record, will be arriving at Marka Airport on
Saturday afternoon, according to a statement released by the British embassy in
Amman.
She will be flying her Piper Dakota single engine aircraft from Dubai — a flight
that will take her 10 to 12 hours.
Vacher aims to be the first female pilot to fly her light aircraft around the
world pole to pole to raise funds for the Royal International Air Tattoo Flying
Scholarships for the Disabled.
His Majesty the late King Hussein supported this charity from its inception in
1983. Her Majesty Queen Noor is now patron of this charity, which provides
flying scholarships to help disabled people rebuild their lives.
During her stay in Amman Vacher will visit, Al Hussein Society for the
Habilitation/rehabilitation of the Physically Challenged, of which HRH Princes
Majida Raad is patron.
She will also have the opportunity to meet with a couple of Royal Jordanian's
women pilots, the statement said.
Vacher was previously in Amman in January 2001 when she first made her attempt
to fly solo around the world in her light aircraft.
