Jordan, through AGIP, joins iCommons project

PALO ALTO, AMMAN — After one year of mutual deliberations, the International Commons Corporation (iCommons) has approved to add Jordan to a list of countries assisting in porting the iCommons project to their regions. Therefore, Jordan is currently considered the first Arab state to bring the iCommons to the Middle East. After announcing its intention to expand in the Middle East through Abu Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) last month, chairman of Creative Commons and professor of law at Stanford Law School, Lawrence Lessig, expressed his optimism over the Jordanian step to initiate this project in the Arab region.

"We are very excited to have AGIP leading iCommons project in Jordan,"he said. "The Jordanian participation, through AGIP, is crucial to our growing effort in promoting the international cultural commons." The iCommons, which oversees the internationalisation of the Creative Commons idea seeks to secure the backup of as many countries as possible to join efforts that increase the sum of raw source material online and to make access to that material cheaper and easier.
