Red-Dead Canal steering
committee to convene on April 17
The steering committee of the Red-Dead Canal project will convene on April 17 to
evaluate achievements of the project’s feasibility study and its environmental
and social impact. The project’s three parties, Israel, Jordan and the
Palestinian Authority, will convene, in addition to the World Bank. The Ministry
of Water and Irrigation will announce the names of companies interested in
carrying out the feasibility study and the economic, social and environmental
assessment of the project tomorrow (Wednesday), according to the ministry’s
spokesperson, Adnan Zu’bi. The projects seeks to preserve the Dead Sea, which
experts have predicted will dry up in 50 years unless urgent action is taken,
while generating power at the same time.
