'Israel should release all
Jordanian prisoners'
AMMAN (JT) — Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Rajab Sukayri on Monday said Israel
should release all Jordanian prisoners, including four it detained before the
1994 peace treaty.
“We hope that the problem would be solved soon,” Sukayri told the Jordan News
Agency, Petra.
He was commenting on Haaretz report, which quoted Israeli Prime Minister Ariel
Sharon yesterday as telling the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee
that “there was no intention to free them [the four prisoners]... they had blood
on their hands.”
Sharon said Israel and Jordan were in talks on the release of 21 Jordanian
prisoners, according to the Israeli daily.
Sukayri reiterated that the government was “tirelessly” trying to release all of
them.
