Jordanian and Iraqi
audit offices sign landmark training agreement
AMMAN (JT) — Iraq took the first much-needed step towards modernising its public
accountability systems with the signing of a partnership agreement between the
Supreme Audit Board (SAB) and Jordan's Audit Board of Jordan. Brokered and
financed by UNDP Iraq through international funding, the SAB project aims to
bridge the knowledge and performance gap between Iraq and the Arab regions and
to equip SAB with modern tools and know-how to the level of international audit
standards. “We have worked for one year to make this agreement happen,” said
Mustafa Al Barari, secretary general of the SAB.
“We are proud to assist our Iraqi counterparts in this important initiative. Because it is not easy for Iraqis to travel, we have developed a comprehensive package which includes training of trainers and practical examples drawn from our own Jordan experience,” he continued. The UNDP SAB project to the value of $4.8m is funded by the UNDP Iraq Trust Fund and will take some 18 months to complete.
