Conference of Iraqi scholars opens

Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Sharif Fawaz Zaben, the King’s Adviser for Tribal Affairs, inaugurated the 5th conference of Iraqi scholars held by the Board of Sunni Pious Endowments (Diwan Al Waqf Al Sunni) in Iraq. Over the two-day conference participants will discuss the formation of an Iraqi fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) complex for the issuance of fatwas. They will also discuss means to unify efforts in dealing with the current situation in Iraq. Ahmad Abdul Ghafour Samerrani, who heads the diwan, thanked the King for support to Iraq. He called on Iraqi scholars taking part in the event to entrench the culture of dialogue between them and fight the takfiri ideology. Several issues related to religious leaders in Iraq and the responsibility of Iraqi scholars towards their country at this stage will be discussed as well.
