Palestinians receive
second aid shipment
The second Jordanian relief aid convoy to Palestinians in two weeks arrived in
Gaza on Thursday, dispatched by the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation upon
directives of His Majesty King Abdullah. It consisted of 25 trucks laden with
400 tonnes of lentils, flour, sugar, tea and chickpeas, 10 of which were bound
for the West Bank. Despite the Israeli-imposed closure of crossing points
leading to the Palestinian lands, the Foreign Ministry and the charity were in
contact with Israeli authorities to ensure passage of the humanitarian aid, said
Yahya Qaralleh, head of the Jordanian representation office in Palestine.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority voiced appreciation of the country's
continued support for the Palestinians. Saeb Erekat, head of the Palestinian
Liberation Organisation's Negotiations Affairs Department, said he highly valued
the King's support.
