Jordan Aviation acquires 310-seat Lockheed aircraft
AMMAN (Petra) — Jordan Aviation (JA) has acquired
a new passenger aircraft boosting its fleet to four aeroplanes, mainly operating
chartered flights on medium- range routes.
JA Manager Captain Mohammad Khashman said the company took delivery of a
310-seat Lockheed Aircraft 1011 that is now in service along with two Airbus
planes 310/320 and a Boeing 737.
According to Khashman, the company has transported 8,000 UN peacekeeping troops
to troubled regions around the world in the first three months of 2004, under a
tender agreement it won in face of strong competition with several international
airlines.
During the same period, the company also transported 4,000 passengers to Aqaba
and Sharm Al Sheikh, under a bilateral tourist programme sponsored by private
tour operators.
Announcing plans for the annual tourist season which begins in September,
Khashman said the company attended tourism exhibitions in Germany, Russia and
Spain and concluded contracts for package deal tour groups to visit Jordan.
In summer, the company will operate chartered flights to Varna in Bulgaria,
Montenegro, Mediterranean islands, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon and Syria.
Khashman called on the government to apply the open skies policy for Amman Marka
Airport in order to give impetus to the tourism industry.
