Int'l conference to be held next week
By Mohammad Ghazal

AMMAN — An international conference will be held here next week to discuss several issues related to e-commerce and intellectual property.

To be held under the patronage of HRH Prince Ali Ben Al Hussein at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Amman, the conference will examine intellectual property on the Internet, the authors' right, trademarks, e-banking, e-transactions, and other related issues. Organised by the Jordan Intellectual Property Association, the conference will group experts from the US, the Middle East, WIPO, IIPPI and other institutions and organisations along with lawyers and representatives from banks and public institutions.

According to a study by the Royal Scientific Society, Jordan has so far been one of the leading countries in adjusting its laws to conform to technological evolution that encouraged many local companies to start e-businesses.

Conducted in 2004 on e-commerce and its effect on labour, the study recommended adopting appropriate, world-standardised legislation to fill small legislative gaps that can take tighten controls on companies and employees.
