HM King Abdullah II postpones meeting with President Bush
HM King Abdullah II has postponed his meeting with US President Bush, which was
scheduled for April 21st 2004 at the White House.
According to an official from the Royal Court, the meeting with the president
has been postponed for the first week of May in order for Jordanian officials to
continue the ongoing talks with US administration officials to clarify the US
position regarding final status issues, especially in light of recent statements
by US officials.
Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher will be staying in Washington to resume talks
with administration officials and to prepare for HM’s visit in May.
HM King Abdullah had sent a letter to President Bush on the 8th April 2004
stressing Jordan's position with regard to ending the Palestinian-Israeli
conflict through the implementation of the roadmap. HM’s letter also underlined
the importance of ensuring
that Israel's withdrawal from Gaza will be part of the roadmap and not an
alternative to it. HM also added that Jordan is looking towards a common plan
with the international community to support the Palestinians and help them
rebuild their institutions.
The official also said that HM’s letter compromises important elements in the
ongoing discussions between Jordanian and US officials.
