Foreign trade index rises
32.8% in two months
AMMAN (Petra) — The foreign trade index rose during the first two months of the
year by 32.8 per cent compared to that recorded during the same period last
year, according to the latest monthly bulletin issued by the Ministry of
Industry and Trade. The rise was the result of a 34.8 per cent increase in
imports, a 38.8 per cent rise in exports and a drop by 3.3 per cent in
re-exports. The US accounted for 29.9 per cent of the total exports, followed by
those to Iraq and Syria, totalling 18.6 per cent and 6.5 per cent respectively.
Exports to India and Saudi Arabia trailed the list, with each country accounting
for 6.2 per cent, according to the ministry's figures.
